We would sometimes even wake up around six oclock in the morning just to ride the glossy surf at Sandy Hook. There was one great day I had on the skiIt was around seven in the morning when I heard my phone ring. It was my buddy Jared waking me up to tell me to meet him at the Channel Club Marina to go out on our jetskis. I told him I would meet him there in about a half-hour. When I got to the marina Jared told me the swells at Sandy Hook were about five foot, which makes for nice wave jumping. We both raced to the first big wave we saw, hit it head on, and must have launched at least six feet into the air, which was nothing compared to the air that would come later. About an hour went by and both of our gas tanks were running a little low. We decided to head back toward the Sandy Hook Bridge to get gas at a place called Bahrs in Highlands, which is also a restaurant. So we jetted back toward the bridge and filled our jetskis up to the brim with gas. Immediately after, we bolted right back to where the waves were. As soon as we returned to our favorite riding spot we started jumping the waves again. This time around, we were getting as high as about ten feet in the air. About an hour into our second run at the Hook, Jared remembered something, something important. He opened up the little compartment on his ski and took out his waterproof camera. We took several dozen pictures that entire day. My favorite one was one Jared took of me. It was a picture of me launching off of a wave at about forty miles per hour, getting about eight feet in the air, and jumping off of the jetski. That awesome shot is hanging on my bedroom wall right now. After taking a good beating from the waves, which definitely wears you out, we would just chill for about a half-hour on the beach. Then, getting bored of just sitting there, we went right back out into the surf. We spent the whole day at the Hook. We must have filled our gas tanks up at least three or four times throughout the course of the day. Around five oclock in the afternoon we felt it was time to start heading back to the marina. Although Oedipus did unknowingly kill his own father, Laius, and marry and slept with his own mother, Jocasta, it was the flaws in his character and attitude, and not fate entirely that led to his downfall. In short, even though he was fated to do what he did in the story, he had the option to avoid that fate. However, his very nature prevented him from doing so. In the story, Oedipus was illustrated as a wise and very good ruler. He was sympathetic and compassionate towards his people. However, like most classical Greek tragic heroes, Oedipus also has flaws that eventually led to his downfall. Possibly his most notable flaws include his impulsiveness, rashness, stubbornness, and his tendency to make lapses or errors in judgment. These flaws were shown in several parts of the play, particularly during the time when he was in the process of discovering the truth about his past. When he recounts to his wife and mother, Jocasta, how he killed a group of travelers, one of which was later revealed to be his biological father, Laius, on a crossroad, Oedipus showed that he is highly capable of being rash and short-tempered. Moreover, his rashness was also shown when Tiresias, the blind prophet, refused to tell Oedipus of the truth about the murderer of Laius. Although the prophet warned him that the truth would be bring him only pain and suffering, Oedipus still insisted and even threatened to accuse him of the murdering the fallen king himself. This forces Tiresias to reveal that it was Oedipus who killed Laius. Due to his short-temper, he accused the prophet of conspiring against him, which further showed how foolish he was. In addition, this also showed how blind Oedipus was because even though the truth was already being presented to him, he still refused to acknowledge it. Furthermore, it was his stubbornness and his desire to seek the truth that eventually led to his downfall. When he was still prince of the kingdom of Corinth, he overheard in a banquet that he was not the true child of the king and queen. He immediately sought the truth from the Oracle of Delphi, who simply told him that he would murder his own father and sleep with his own mother. This forced him to flee his home and it was during this time that he met the group of travelers whom he would all kill. After some time, he saved the kingdom of Thebes from the curse of the Sphinx by answering its riddle. Choosing a college is a difficult yet exciting process students face as they are about to graduate high school. The process is very easy to adapt since it is just a set of ideas one can use alongside other concepts one has acquired for, learning, personal development, and self-improvement as well as for training (Thompson, et al 2012). After the nurse has used knowledge and skills they have learned in school, they should then start to think about the event, and the skills they learned of the event or the emergency is taking place, this mostly happens at the receiving bay of casualties on the way to the emergency room or theatre (Nelson, 2012). At this point, the nurse has the real-time knowledge and the case at hand. The nurse should at this case decide on when and where to act. Using the same reflective model of reflection, the nurse should act urgently and respond to patients needs regarding knowledge they have le arned and the experience they have in the cases (Schn, 2015) From this brief description of the reflection in action as a nurse I shall be able to apply my knowledge that I have learned in school and be able to achieve a more or less direct service to the patient who is at hand for me. i shall be able to use my expertise as a nurse to discern what course of action to take bearing in mind that the case at hand is demanding my attention. I will either discern whether to inject the patient who is a patient of an accident or give the patient oral pain killers. Using the reflective model of reflection I will be able to act urgently as well as be able to respond to the patients needs in regard my training and expertize. Reflection on Action The second part of the Schon reflective process is the reflection n action also known as the thinking after the action has taken place (Moon, 2013). In this second part of the reflection model, the nurse should make sure that they reflect back and rewind the event as it occurred during the real time event. At this point, the nurse is more likely to refer to back to the part one of the models. The nurse is also expected to think and concern themselves about what they would have done differently from what they did when the event was taking place. At this point, the nurse should note down some of the failures and success of each step they made (Moon, 2013). This is so as to be able to learn about things and modifications that one has to effect in case such event happens again. The last step the nurse who uses this model of reflection is about the new information gained or learned as well as the theoretical perspectives from the study which inform the reflectors experiences; then they are used in the processing of the actions and feelings (American N.A. 2010) Using the reflection model on reflection on action, I will be able to offer proper and diligent services to all patients that are brought forth to my attention. Tree For Thought Tree for Thought On a winding hillside along Birch Lake, various trees and organic landscapes hide my sacred place. It is located in the backyard of my grandparents house. To the average outsider, it is just another pine tree growing among piles of leaves and pine needles that blanket a grassy hill leading down to the lake. In my world, it was a place where I could lie at an acute angle and visit a tree I gave life to. I still remember the smell of the freshly baked bread my grandmother made that morning. I was only six years old, but when a fresh loaf of bread came out of the oven, I had the appetite of an adult. After stuffing ourselves, Grandma and I made our way to the shed in search of tools to plant a tree. As we searched for a shovel, fumes from the leaky gas tank of the lawnmower kept us in high spirits. We eventually found a spade and looked for a place to dig. The hill in the backyard was blocked off with a short fence. Dilapidated stairs led down to the beachfront. Grandma and I scaled the foot-high fence and sidestepped down the incline. About ten steps down, we found the perfect place for the tree. She gripped the ribbed, rubber handle of the shovel and began carving a hole into the fertile soil. I cradled the newborn tree, making sure he would be able to enjoy the new home we were making for him. The clouds were threatening as if they were predators preparing for an attack on their prey. The rolling thunder, snarling and growling, kept us working at a fast pace. My grandmother assured me that Spike?thats what I named the tree?would be fine when the storm struck later that afternoon. Once she finished digging the hole, we could have fit a soda can perfectly inside, but Spike fit much better. He seemed to like his new home. In time, mossy friends would keep him company, rain would nurture him, and dogs would soon make him their own. Grandma sent me back up the hill to grab the watering spout so we could feed Spikes green needles the nutrients they needed to keep him alive and well. We were careful not to drown him, knowing that he would receive more water later that day. Just then, a cold drop of rain hit my neck; it sent a shiver down my spine. Grandma and I headed for shelter. Almost crashing into the short fence, I scampered up the hill on all fours. We tossed the tools back in the shed and ran into the house. Throughout my childhood, I would visit Spike as often as I visited my grandparents. I would sprawl out alongside him and attempt to arrange the many tangled thoughts in my head. Worried thoughts about upcoming exams and confused thoughts about girls were just a few of the things I pondered. Spike and his birch friends listened to my every word, or so I assured myself. I always left Birch Lake with a sense of comfort. Although my visits now are few and far between, I still go back to the lake and visit Spike when I can.
