Development of Nursing Care

Question: Discuss about the Development of Nursing Care. Answer: Introduction The skill and the effort of caring and loving the patients are the primary goals that the nurses are trained and called to do. The passion and attention can be shown or evident by the actions that the nurses are doing or saying to their patients when they are attending to them or admitting them (Blais, 2015). However one needs to critically and rationally subject her values and beliefs in the service for the work as a nurse. In this paper will evaluate the significance of one having a reflection of their convictions as well as how one can implement the same in the practice of the profession. Reflective practice is a term that has been used since time in the memorial in other fields especially in the social sciences and technical fields. However recently the term took its way into the nursing profession where it has proved to be an essential tool (Thompson, et al 2012). Reflective practice is one of the methods used to assess ones thoughts as well as the actions for the primary purpose of personal development and learning. The process is very easy to adapt since it is just a set of ideas one can use alongside other concepts one has acquired for, learning, personal development, and self-improvement as well as for training (Thompson, et al 2012). The reflective process greatly assists the nurses who engage themselves in this practice to have a healthy and better personal growth, what we feel about others at the real time and at the previous time. Critical reflection in this essay will be used to describe the adoption of questioning stance to the solution of problems, examine ones owns assumptions as well as the challenge of the status quo. Critical reflection mainly used in nursing also substantially extends to the consideration of wide social political perceptive as well as the theory, professional activity and other significant contexts. Reflective practice has several different merits since they increase self-awareness that is the key element in emotional intelligence as well in the understanding of other people policies and ideologies. Use of the reflective practice assists so much in nursing since it helps in discussing of academic and very meaningful career development. There are several models of reflective practice that include, the Kolb, Schon and Gibbs reflective model. In this essay paper, we shall use Schon model of reflective practice. The Schon reflection on the action or inaction states that an additional concept and element by ensuring a difference between the observation during the real time happening of the event and the reflection after the event as was the case (Moon, 2013). It is helpful for one to take into account the difference that exists between one individual reflective practices in nursing. Schon ReflectionModel According to the Schon reflection model which is best for nursing is divided into two parts, which include, the reflection in action and reflection on the action (Moon, 2013). Since nursing is a delicate profession and one needs to be sensitive to future purposes and values. Reflection in Action The Schon reflective model advocates that at any instance the nurse is involved in an activity, then he or she should follow some very critical stages. Once an individual problem faces the nurse, then the nurse should use his or her experience that they have learned in school to solve the issue (Schn, 2015). After the nurse has used knowledge and skills they have learned in school, they should then start to think about the event, and the skills they learned of the event or the emergency is taking place, this mostly happens at the receiving bay of casualties on the way to the emergency room or theatre (Nelson, 2012). At this point, the nurse has the real-time knowledge and the case at hand. The nurse should at this case decide on when and where to act. At this point, the nurse is more likely to injection a patient of an accident with a painkiller. Using the same reflective model of reflection, the nurse should act urgently and respond to patients needs regarding knowledge they have le arned and the experience they have in the cases (Schn, 2015) From this brief description of the reflection in action as a nurse I shall be able to apply my knowledge that I have learned in school and be able to achieve a more or less direct service to the patient who is at hand for me. i shall be able to use my expertise as a nurse to discern what course of action to take bearing in mind that the case at hand is demanding my attention. I will either discern whether to inject the patient who is a patient of an accident or give the patient oral pain killers. Using the reflective model of reflection I will be able to act urgently as well as be able to respond to the patients needs in regard my training and expertize. Reflection on Action The second part of the Schon reflective process is the reflection n action also known as the thinking after the action has taken place (Moon, 2013). In this second part of the reflection model, the nurse should make sure that they reflect back and rewind the event as it occurred during the real time event. At this point, the nurse is more likely to refer to back to the part one of the models. The nurse is also expected to think and concern themselves about what they would have done differently from what they did when the event was taking place. At this point, the nurse should note down some of the failures and success of each step they made (Moon, 2013). This is so as to be able to learn about things and modifications that one has to effect in case such event happens again. The last step the nurse who uses this model of reflection is about the new information gained or learned as well as the theoretical perspectives from the study which inform the reflectors experiences; then they are used in the processing of the actions and feelings (American N.A. 2010) Using the reflection model on reflection on action, I will be able to offer proper and diligent services to all patients that are brought forth to my attention. Taking, for instance, a chance where am presented by the patient who has been involved in an accident I should be able to wave back and jog my mind back to a similar event like that brought forth. If I was successive on the previous occasion and I had managed to save the life of the patients by then. I will use the same method and process I used so as to reinstate the patient at hand. At this point, I shall be able to use my trained skills and expertise to be able to offer my service to the patient since I will reflect back on that which I was taught at school by the lecturers. It is one of the best practice and procedure to carry out in the event of patient that had a similar case one had solved. In any medical system or facility in any state across the globe, nurses are the backbone of the system and play a key and vital role in ensuring that the patients who arrive at the clinics and hospitals are treated and handled with a complete quality (Wald, 2010). For nurse to do this its very vital to use key reflective model to evaluate the case at hand as well as handle the cases that are escalating. From the above essay, schon reflective model of reflective practice in nursing is the best and most suitable reflective. The schon reflective model enables the nurse to evaluate the best choices to take at the time of the event as it occurring and to learn from past events. The schon reflection model is also an effective model for those nurses or practitioners who practice their skills and expertise in the rural areas (Coward, 2011). As discussed any nurse who needs to be at per with the dynamic world of nursing and care, then personal development. Conclusion In a nutshell it is a vital and key process that every nurse should be able to solve each and every case, brought to their attention. Such scenarios should include ear assessments or wound suturing but all needs reflective practice. As discussed in the essay we would high recommend to use the schon model of reflection.
